Wavy Hair Tutorial

Please note: These are just my ways of doing things in Paint. I don't use it very much, so there may be easier/quicker ways to do what I am doing, feel free to play around!

1. I prefer to draw the hair last, especially in Paint, as the hair often needs to go over the clothes. Open your doll or base.	2. Feel free to use you own colours, but I have made some palettes to make it a little easier for you - you will find them at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, have a go at making your own. To use the palette, go to Edit/Paste From and locate the colour palettes from where you saved them on your PC. This will open them into the same document as your doll. For this tutorial, you will need the black palette & a coloured palette.	3. Once in Paint, click on the Brush tool and choose the smallest brush size. You could use the Pencil tool instead, if you want, but I always find the Brush easier as you just have the "cross-hair" cursor and thins makes it much easier to see what you are actually doing.

4. Use the Pick Color tool to select colour 4 from your palette. Draw in the outline of the hair & colour it in.	5. Select colour 1 & add shading at the parting of the hair. Also shade around the shoulders, jawline & neck.	6. Select colour 2 & expand the shading, adding shading around the temples.

7. Keep using colour 2 & draw in a rough checkerboard pattern on the loose sections of hair - these will form the shading on the waves.	8. Use colour 3 to soften the shading from the previous step.	9. Select colour 5 & add some highlights to the top of the hair & on the waves.

10. Use 6 to add a few pixels of colour onto the highlight you drew in step 9. This adds ultra-shininess.	11. Now, you're hair should be looking pretty good, so if you're happy with it, leave it at this. However, it may be looking a little flat, so we're going to add some stands to give it texture. For each section of shading, select the next darkest colour & add a few pixels to create strands of hair.	12. Remember to keep zooming out to keep an eye on how the hair it looking - sometimes it look great up close but terrible when you zoom out. You may need to re-do some shading accordingly.

Your hair is complete!
